The X-P700 is a stereo preamplifier designed to build an audiophile system based on separate power amplifiers. As the successor to the X-P500, it offers technical refinements rarely seen in this price range – including a dual mono architecture and the most direct signal path possible (Direct Path).
The user can choose between two operating modes:
Class A – using bipolars in a double cascade circuit, delivering a tube-like tonal character,
Discrete Mode – based on a JFET differential circuit and current mirror in bipolars, polarized in the classic Class AB.
The design is elegant and minimalist – with a single rotary knob and a push button for confirming selections, providing access to inputs, volume, bass/treble tone controls, balance and intensity. All functions can also be operated via the included remote control.
The X-P700 is remarkably versatile:
Analog inputs: 9, including one balanced and one MM/MC phono
Digital inputs: 2 optical, 1 coaxial, 1 USB-B (Xmos) and 1 USB-A
DAC: Burr Brown PCM1796, 24-bit / 192 kHz
Outputs: RCA + balanced XLR, one high-pass output and two subwoofer outputs
Headphone enthusiasts are also well served – on the front panel are two headphone jacks (6.35 mm and 3.5 mm), plus two independent outputs below, each with adjustable gain (+6, 0 or -4 dB) and output impedance (0 or 100 Ω).
Inside, the X-P700 reveals its true quality – beneath its minimalist 10 mm black methacrylate front panel (typical of the Classic Line) are two high-capacity toroidal transformers, powering a dual, filtered and regulated power supply. The main board also houses the preamplification stages. The performance of the adjustable MM/MC phono stage is remarkable for this price range – hard to imagine anything better.
