ABOUT CANTON

The sound that moves.

German tradition and modern engineering

Canton is the largest manufacturer of loudspeakers in Germany, operating continuously since 1972. The company was founded by four sound enthusiasts: Hubert Milbers, Otfried Sandig, Wolfgang Seikritt, and Günther Seitz. Since its inception, Canton has remained a family business, and its headquarters in Weilrod has transformed from an old school into one of the most modern loudspeaker factories in Europe.

Since the beginning of its operations, Canton has developed its products in its own research and development centre, where engineers work on achieving the perfect sound using advanced computer simulations, modern materials, and precise measurement techniques. Every stage – from the design of the transducers to the final finish – is carried out with attention to detail to ensure a sound that is true to the original.

Family values and continuity of development

Canton is a family-owned German audio company that has been designing and producing loudspeakers and sound systems for music and cinema enthusiasts for over 50 years. Since its establishment in 1972, the brand has remained true to its mission: to create speakers that open up new worlds of sound for the listener and allow them to experience music in a natural, emotional, and realistic way. The company has operated in Weilrod, Hesse, from the beginning, where its headquarters, development centre, and production facility are located. It is here that the most important series of Canton loudspeakers are created, and the design and testing process is fully controlled by the company.

Canton describes itself as the ‘Family of Sound’ – a family made up of both its employees and the users of its products.

Canton in numbers

Canton creates a wide range of audio solutions, including speaker systems for stereo and home cinema, active Smart systems with networking features, soundbars and sound decks, as well as subwoofers and installation speakers. The company designs both advanced premium constructions and more affordable models, making its offerings suitable for various spaces – from living rooms and listening rooms to modern multimedia systems. All products share Canton’s characteristic approach: precise German engineering, attention to materials, and sound that is meant to be natural, dynamic, and full of emotion.

Sound philosophy: naturalness and emotion

Canton has always been guided by the idea of creating speakers that faithfully reproduce the original recording. The sound is meant to be:

  • Neutral and natural
  • Dynamic and full of energy
  • Detailed, yet not tiring
  • Realistic and spacious

This approach stems from the belief that a good speaker should not "colour" the sound, but rather allow the listener to experience the music as it was recorded.

Technology and development

All Canton products are designed in Germany, at the company headquarters in Weilrod. It is here that the following are created:

  • Transducer designs
  • Cabinet constructions
  • Crossover systems
  • Acoustic measurements and listening tests

Innovations and materials

Canton is known for using modern technologies and materials, such as:

  • Aluminium and titanium membranes
  • High-stiffness cabinets
  • Advanced bass-reflex systems
  • Precision crossovers designed by computer
The company has been a pioneer in the application of new solutions in speaker design on multiple occasions.
