Heritage

The history of Lutron began in 1961 when Ruth and Joel Spira founded a company that would change the way people use light. Previously, in 1959, Joel Spira invented the first semiconductor dimmer, laying the foundation for the entire lighting control industry.

In a small apartment in New York, a laboratory was created where the first prototypes were developed. The combination of Joel's visionary thinking and Ruth's practical approach led to the creation of products that were both beautiful, functional, and energy-efficient.
